Mossley v Hednesford Town

Monday 09/09/2024

It’s back to Northern Premier League West action on Tuesday night when Hednesford make the journey up the M6/M60 to Mossley.

Both teams were in FA Trophy action at the weekend, Hednesford completing an impressive 4-1 home win over Quorn while Mossley bowed out of the competition at City of Liverpool, losing 2-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time which saw them draw level after conceding two goals in the first ten minutes.

In the FA Cup, wins over Colne, Eccleshill and Whitby, the last two after replays, eventually beating Whitby on penalties, have given Mossley a lucrative home game against National North side Chorley in the Second Qualifying round next Saturday while Hednesford will travel to Rugby Town. Their league form has seen them pick up just one win, at home to Clitheroe along with two draws at Newcastle Town and Avro and an away defeat against Hanley Town. This leaves them in 14th place in the league table with five points from four games while Hednesford are third with 10 from five, knowing a win could take them to the top.

In 10 league and cup games this season Mossley have scored 20 goals which have been shared between 12 players. Their leading scorers with three each are Reece Webb-Foster, Eric Yahaya and Mateusz Kardacz. In nine league and cup games Hednesford have scored 28 goals, and these have been shared amongst 11 players. Leading scorers being Dom McHale with five and Manny Duku and Rob Stevenson with four each.

Last season Mossley had the edge over the Pitmen, winning 1-0 at Seel Park in September and repeating the score line at Keys Park in February.

Manager Steve King may be forced to shuffle his pack after Blaine Rowe, Dom McHale and Jack Bearne all limped off against Quorn and he said” There were a few bad tackles which weren’t dealt with, so we’ve got a couple of injuries, but we’ll go to Mossley prepared after having them watched at City of Liverpool”.

Mossley play at Seel Park, Market Street, Mossley, Ashton-under-Lyne OL5 0ES. Admission to the game on Tuesday 10th September will be £10 adults, £6 concessions, £3 16-17 and £1 under 16.

Tickets are still available on the Official Travel Club coach to this game, leaving Keys Park at 4.30pm costing £20 through the Fanbase app or by contacting the club.
