Hednesford Town v Quorn

Friday 06/09/2024

After last Saturday’s impressive 6-1 FA Cup win at previously unbeaten Melton Town, Hednesford turn their attention to the FA Trophy when Quorn come to Keys Park for a First Qualifying Round tie on Saturday 7th September.

Quorn play their football in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division and currently sit in fourth place in the table with eight points from four games. They are unbeaten in the league this season with two wins, 2-0 at Racing Club Warwick and 5-1 at home to Sutton Coldfield accompanied by two draws, 1-1 at Long Eaton and 0-0 at home to Ansty Nomads. The Reds’ only defeat came in the FA Cup, a 0-4 reverse at Cleethorpes.

Their leading scorer is Paddy Webb who has five goals to add to his 70 from 88 appearances before this season followed by Courey Grantham with two. Pitmen fans may remember Grantham from his loan spell in 2018/19 from Basford when he scored two goals in three games before being recalled. The only other time the teams have met was also in the FA Trophy First Qualifying Round back in October 2008 when Hednesford left Keys Park with a 3-1 win thanks to goals from Ross Dyer (2) and Tyrone Barnett in front of a crowd of 338.

Hednesford will have virtually a full-strength squad to choose from. Simeon Maye came through his comeback game at Melton unscathed and Josh Endall was due to play in the postponed Development game last Monday. Dan Sparkes who was on crutches at the Melton game following his injury against Chasetown is around a month away from a return.

Manager Steve King said

“I was more than happy with our performance last week. We had Quorn watched against Warwick and we need to try and get some home wins. We’ve played well at home but not won as many as I’d like”.

Admission on Saturday will be £11 adults, £8 concessions and disabled with carer, £3 13-17, £3 10-12 and free for U10s although 10-12 and under 10 must be accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets are also available in advance via the Fanbase app and please remember that Season Tickets are not valid for this fixture. Car parking is £3 cash only and gates open at 1pm for a 3pm kick off.

If the game ends in a draw there will be no extra time or a replay and the winners will be decided by a penalty shootout.
