Hednesford Town Sign Sion Spence

Monday 24/06/2024

Hednesford Town Football Club are delighted to announce that midfielder Sion Spence has joined the club.

New signing Sion Spence

Spence, 23, was a part of the Cardiff City academies and youth teams before joining the U21 setup at Crystal Palace in September 2020. In the 21/22 Season Sion was loaned to EFL League Two side Bristol Rovers where he played a part in the Joey Barton side that won promotion to EFL League One. Sion played 12 games in all competitions for ‘The Gas’ scoring three goals, which included a match winning brace in an FA Cup First Round Replay against Oxford United.

Following his time at Bristol Rovers, Sion returned to Crystal Palace before joining Gloucester City on a permanent deal where he played under now Hednesford Town Manager Steve King in the Vanarama National League North in 2022/23. Spence played a number of games in all competitions scoring 10 goals including a hattrick against AFC Telford United and a stoppage time equaliser in their Play-Off Quarter Final against Brackley Town.

At the end of the season, Spence departed for Kings Lynn Town where he featured in all of their games before joining Havant and Waterlooville where he finished the season.

On the signing manager Steve King had the following to say:

I am absolutely thrilled to get Sion to Keys Park; he was the first player I tried to get when I got the job – this is the third time he will have played for me which shows how highly I rate him as a player and a person. I believe he has all the tools to go back to the Football League. Goal-scoring central midfield players are at a premium and I fully expect him to get double figures this season.

Everyone at Hednesford Town is delighted to see Sion here at the club and wish him all the best for this time here at Keys Park
